Graffiti. Is it art?

This is graffiti from Venice beach california. The question is graffiti art. If you ask the artist from their the answer would be yes. Graffiti has been much a part of California for many years and will always be a part of the Venice beaches.

Self- Portrait

This is my personal self- portrait, I took a bunch of things that I enjoy and are significant to my life and put them in a personal collogue.

Graffiti: Is it art?

Graffiti is a strange and distinctive art form. The world is the artist’s canvas as they paint on public surface such as walls and bridges. Graffiti expresses cultural thought through the artwork. The graffiti movement has been met with much fight as some see it as mere destruction. Graffiti is art because it does express a personal belief in an artistic way and what is created can be interpreted.

Diorama

This is my Diorama on Polluted Beaches. Polluting our beaches is an issue in which we damage many animals habitat. It also makes our beautiful beaches less scenic. Our great beaches slowly start to deteriorate if pollution is evident in that area.

What is Art?

I think art is taking what you imagine and making it real so everyone can see it. I think art is an appearance of the artist’s interpretation. Each person interprets the world differently therefore each piece of art is interpreted differently.

Sophia Solomon- Self Portrait

kudzu is one of the fastest growing plants when in ideal growing conditions. West Georgia must be my ideal growing condition because I have grown so much as a person since coming to school here!

I chose a picture of a someone surfing on a wave because I like to surf and I like the beach. I chose this picture because I would like to see myself at the beach surfing instead of in Carrolton.

I see myself as someone who loves to travel around lost in my thoughts by myself. At times I find myself roaming with a pack but somehow I always find peace when I'm alone. It's just the way I've always been. Some people think I might be more Japanese...I'm inclined to agree. I really like Japan.

Self Portrait

This pack of smokes engulfed in flames represents me doing to them what they have been doing to me for many years. Its over between us. Don't Call. Don't Write. So long murderers.

Self Portrait:Refraction

Refraction is defined as the change in direction of light. This represents my personal change of motivation and the direction I have taken in my life.

These beautiful tulips represent me because they have not bloomed and I feel like I have not blossomed into the woman that God wants me to be.

Graffiti: Art or Not?

Determining whether graffiti is art is not a strictly black and white, cut and paste scenario. This determination lies within an area of vast grayness. The definition of art itself varies with every single person. The perception of art is never the same and works of art evoke differing emotions depending on social and cultural surroundings. To me art is anything that is created or destroyed through the expression of emotions or thoughts. This being my definition of art pushes me to accept all graffiti as a work of art regardless of its complexity, legality, or my personal opinion of the work. I might not like or understand some of the graffiti I see but the creator must have been feeling the need to express thems
elves. The particular graffiti that I chose to take a picture of is the epitome of the gray area I mentioned earlier. At first it looked like someone just decided to spray-paint the side of a dumpster. As I looked closer I could see that the artist had indeed included a name with his or her work. This indicated to me that this person wanted everyone to know that they had done this. It was important enough to them that they felt the urge to claim this work as their own. Regardless of its complexity it is still a moment in time when this person felt something and expressed themselves. To me that is art.It is impossible to set universal boundaries on art and say that one piece is art and another is not. There are as many opinions as there are people but the only one that really matters is the artist. As long as people perceive their works as something to be admired, studied, and contemplated upon then their works will always be considered art by me.

Self-Portrait in Colors

Red is the symbol of life, vitality, and passion.

Orange is the symbol of curiousity.

Gold represents success.

Yellow deals with identity, awareness, and optimism.

Green is the color of balance and harmony.

Blue is calming; it provides a feeling of distance. Artists use it to show perspective. It allows us to look beyond and increase our perspective outward.

Purple is the symbol of spiritual fulfillment because it gives peace of mind.

Black is mysterious; it provides a sense of potential and possibility.

The white in between each color is the complete energy of light. It symbolizes wholeness and completion. It offers truth.

Graffiti- art or not?

Some people do not believe Graffiti is art. But if we can call a two year olds scribble art, how is graffiti not art? I personally do not see the beauty in graffiti but that does not mean it isn’t art. Art is often not appreciated. Obviously graffiti shouldn’t be legalized because then it would cover everything. However, when in the right place, certain graffiti can be appealing and help to individualize a place.

Graffiti Art

This is a picture I took while in Nagoya, Japan. It was a wall full of graffiti but this was the one that stood out. Looks like a child of Poseidon or something. My friend in the pic is giving her/it a drink of water.
Although graffiti is not found on your traditional canvas, it is definitely art. Created from an individual's own mind and soul, it is unique to that individual and expresses that individual's ideas. Many people do not consider it art because of its roots and the class that is usually associated with it. In some cases, it is done in an illegal manner as it vandalizes another's property and, sometimes with the idea of vandalism in mind. Many people even use it to express their affiliation with certain groups that are looked down upon in society. Punks, gangs, and street rats typically are associated with the a lot of graffiti but even so, these individuals still have their ideas about the world and choose to express it more publicly. Graffiti is not the first art that has been looked down on. In earlier times, it was not legal to paint human figures yet there were those bold enough to challenge the norm and now it is regarded as high art. Graffiti may lack the detail and styles of classical art, but what new art movement doesn't push the boundaries of what is considered art. There is not one style of art that appeals to everyone. However, graffiti does speak to many and therefore it is art.

Graffiti

Graffiti is an unusual and unique modern art form. The world is the artist’s canvas as they paint on surface such as walls and bridges. It is most popular in large cities such as Los Angeles and New York but can be found most anywhere. Graffiti expresses cultural thought through the artwork. The graffiti movement has been met with much resistance as some see it as mere vandalism. Graffiti is art because it does express a personal belief in an artistic way and often displays the classic elements of art such as line, color, shape, and value.

What is art?

I see art as an outward expression of inner thoughts and feeling. Capturing a moment in time with a painting, sculpture, photograph, or any other form of art so that others might feel your emotions or begin to look and think deeper about what it specifically represents. Art is Art, it can not be labeled either good, bad, adequate, or inadequate.

Diorama

Funeral protests over the last couple of years have sparked a large debate over the First Amendment. A number of states in the U.S. have enacted ordinances that make protesting at federal cemeteries a felony offense but protesters are taking the battle to the court system hiding under the umbrella of the First Amendment. The concern here is the application to ONLY federal cemeteries. What about private cemeteries where fallen soldiers are buried. Everyone has the right to free speech but shouldn't everyone have the right to bury their loved ones in a respectable manner without having rude and insulting phrases shouted at the families during the service.

Global Warming Diorama

I chose to illustrate an ocean/aquarium for my diorama project because global warming has caused a decline in the fish population. On the front of my diorama is a school of fish that has not yet felt the effects of global warming and on the back is a school of fish that has felt the effects of global warming. Because of global warming, many populations of fish are declining in bodies of water around the world. The rise in temperature in ocean waters causes a large amount of fish to relocate to unsafe habitats. For tips on how to prevent global warming visit http://www.wikihow.com/Reduce-Your-Greenhouse-Gas-Emissions for more information.

Millions of children go to bed hungry, and don’t understand that they’re parents are unable to provide for them. Some beg, but some are too weak to even cry. Every minute of everyday, somewhere in the world, 21 children will die of malnutrition and preventable diseases. Constant malnutrition can lead to blindness or deformities. As shocking as it seems, it’s the truth. While some child is starving in some poverty-stricken country, an obese child is being fed fast food. One child is dying because he is hungry, while the other child is dying because he’s eating too much. We need a balance. We don’t have to accept it, but we can choose to stop it.

Cost of Living

Since the Industrial Revolution of the 1800's, balancing luxury and the consumption of natural resources has been a major problem. My diorama illustrates the problem of our wastes leaking into our natural resources: air, water, and wildlife.

What is Art?

I think that art is an expression of one's experiences. It can be through one's eyes or through the eyes of another. And not just one's eyes but any of the other five senses if not more. It can be subtle or blunt but usually reflects one's mind, body, and/or soul. That's what i think art is.

I think art is...

I think art is taking what you imagine and transfering it to a concrete surface so others can see it.

This is what I think art is...

I think art is an expression of how the artist views the world. Each person interprets the world differently therefore each piece of art is interpreted differently.
